A 27-year-old woman sustained critical injuries when she was shot Saturday in the parking garage of Missouri’s Ameristar Casino Resort Spa St. Charles.
According to St. Louis, Mo., the unidentified victim needed surgery at a nearby hospital after being shot in the neck around 2:30 a.m. Television network KTVI.
The St. Charles Police Department was notified and quickly arrived at the location.
The victim, located on the second level of the parking structure, managed to disclose to the officers the identity of her assailant.
A little while later, Calvin Koong, 50, from St. Louis, was accused of first-degree domestic assault, first-degree kidnapping, and armed criminal activity.
He stayed in custody at the St. Charles County Jail as of late Saturday. His bail was set at $500,000.
Authorities stated that he was the boyfriend of the victim.
According to Missouri TV station KSDK, surveillance footage from the casino shows the victim was in a vehicle owned by Koong.
She sat in the driver's seat with the door on her side ajar. The woman seemingly attempted to exit the vehicle. Koong forced the woman back into the vehicle and the two engaged in what was termed a struggle, according to police.
She ultimately managed to escape from the vehicle. However, just a few feet away, she collapsed onto the garage pavement after sustaining injuries.
Kind-hearted bystanders hurried to assist her and deliver immediate first aid. They also informed the authorities.
Koong tried to escape, but was obstructed from exiting the area by a concrete barrier in the parking garage.
A security guard from Ameristar Casino quickly showed up and noticed Koong.
The officer caught the suspect. He admitted to the guard, “I shot her.” "I fired at her." According to KSDK, Koong subsequently admitted to the police.
Authorities apprehended Koong. They additionally examined the suspect’s vehicle and discovered a firearm. It was taken as proof.
The case was handed to local prosecutors. If found guilty, Koong may face a prison sentence.
Authorities did not disclose a reason for the shooting.
The victim was quickly taken to the hospital's emergency department. No update on the victim's condition as of late Saturday. Police did not immediately disclose details about her injuries.
Charges may be escalated if the woman does not make it.
